Going back home

Date: Friday 1 July 2005 - Saturday 2 July 2005
Temperature: 20 °C
Weather: Time is spend in the plane. Just to get to some nice places.

Before heading back I wanted to help one more person. I don't like buying from young kids, I don't like giving money to beggars on touristy spots, but there are people who you do not want to ignore. Like this badly dressed women in the park chewing on plastic and talking to someone of something in a different world. I gave her my banana's, my remaining cola and some pesos, and I really didn't care what she used the money for. Whether it is drugs, food, clothes or drinks, I am happy to be the reason for her to have a good day. I do have a preference of course. Curious about what she would buy, my eyes followed her to the kiosk and saw her buying a single cigarette. Well done Marlborough and co; people without enough to eat and drink, people with not enough clothes to wear and not a dry place to sleep; the last thing they want in life is a smoke! Well done! ... and the paper to eat....

Customs in America was a lot of fun again! Beside the usual 'big brother' acts, like eye can, fingerprints and shoe x-rayed, they had dogs walking around the customs terminal sniffing at all the bags. I was 'helped' by the same person as four months ago, and this time he was very friendly, probably happy to see me coming back from Mexico alive. After twenty minutes of chitchat, he placed my ticket and passwords in a nice red envelope and told me to go to 'second check'. A huge space, with only me and one security guy, who had many questions again about my visas to the Islamic countries. Half an hour later, tired of answering questions about, how I earned the money for the trip and whether I knew it was very dangerous there, I joined the other mass of swearing people. The hall was full of bags, everybody was worried about getting their connecting plane in time and angry about all this stupid security stuff. Not unnecessary, because all this eventually made the plane, which was already taxiing, return to collect the remaining bags. It was fun to experience actually, but I do need to get rid of my Islamic visas, because like this I will be missing a plane eventually. After a movie marathon, it was great to see that my best friend and my girlfriend surprised me by picking me up from the airport.
