After checking into an hostel I looked around town.
I had expected mass tourism, which it was, but more in a friendly non pushy way. The hotel zone looked pretty nice actually with a beautiful lake on one side and an even better looking beach at the other, set in a 'Big Apple' skyline. Although they kept saying that the beach was public, it was impossible for non guests to get there. It was blocked on both sides by a small private part reserved for the guests of that hotel only.
After telling them that I waited for my parents, which was thoroughly checked in their computers, they let me wait at their beach.
I showed up at my parents room and we had a lot of chats, drinks and laughs. I joined them for dinner, now understanding where my fathers belly is coming from, and we saw a nice mariachi show. Back into town, in their perfect 24 hour bus system, I was overwhelmed by American school kids hearing phrases like "I don't want you to call me your bitch!". After five minutes though I didn't understand why she was complaining about such an accurate thing to say. Further more we did some swimming and enjoyed the sun at that hotels beach! My mum and dad got pink actually after just an half hour of sun. With their flashy red 'all inclusive' bracelet they got cocktails for us and sneaked some lunch for me out of the restaurant. (Hmm, maybe they were right to be very strict with allowing non guests onto their property!)
One night we ate outside, which was a bit disappointing, but full as we were from lunch, that didn't matter.
Monday we did a boat trip with some friendly Americans to Isla Mujeres. We looked at the city center, did some shopping and swam in some beaches before meeting up again in the boat for some snorkeling and fish feeding. Floating from one side in the heavy current to the other, seeing many barracudas, parrot fish and other species on the way at least if you go snorkeling. My dad gets claustrophobic with a mask and my mum thinks it's impossible for air to get into a snorkel. On the next stop we had a great big lunch with fish and I could hold a shark and kiss it. I felt bad afterward though, because paying for holding a drugged shark with no teeth is nothing better than the dancing bear on hot coals, the monkeys and parrots for sitting on your neck, the cobras for dancing on the music and the elephants for being forced to give you a shower with their trunk. Anyway we had a great day!
