From Rio Dulce, I went through Cahabon, where I got stranded with some low budget French people, to Lanquin. And I really mean a low budget. Bargaining on a room of less than three dollar, which was worth this amount of money to my opinion. Drinking own brought coffee in the morning made with cold water and eating dry bread dipped in ketchup. Disgusting it was actually. Being on a budget is oke, we all are, but there is a big difference of spending seven dollar a day instead of twelve. And with twelve you still live by on less than 400 dollar a month, which is still dirt cheap.
In Lanquin, I stayed at El Retiro lodge which was a great place with cabanas, hammocks, a nice river to cool of in and some great food. Semuc Champey were many different pools of nice clear swimming water and there was a nice helicopter view of it. The caves nearby were mostly attractive because of the millions of bats that fly out every day. Standing there in the opening and being amazed of not getting hit by them. What also was nice was that I could go in by myself, with no guide and explore a little. Then I also did some 'wild water' tubing. It was actually just floating down the river in a big truck wheel, but nice for sure. For the rest, as I said it was a nice place with great food. When I ran out of money it was time to go to the highlands of Nebaj, through Coban.
