Antigua, Volcano Pacaya

Antigua is the nicest city I have seen so far.
The first where they have heard of garbage bins. So it's clean, has a great park and nice cathedrals and the houses are painted in the nicest colors.
Tuesday I went up volcano Pacaya, which was absolutely spectacular. A two hour walk through forest and onto volcanic rocks with some great views. I was speechless when we arrived at the crater. We could smell the sulfur, feel the heat, hear the eruptions and see the red boiling lava. I could make some nice photo’s and film, but of course every time when a big eruption occurred I had just given up filming. After some hours it was time to go back and 'once again' we could run of the volcano. I bumped into a group of typical Dutch girls from Groningen. Several had scratches all over, because of falling when running down, one had problems with her lenses and one had her arm dislocated. Partly because of this I missed the bus and together with an Argentino, who tried to smoke as much weed as the volcano smoked, we joined the girls in their bus back to Antigua.
Back there how funny, I met some friends from Pana and we had some great stories to tell during dinner and relaxing in the park. Further more I saw a local soccer game, people standing on walls and sitting in trees, I did a lot of reading. A nice novel, but also about Guatemala and together with all the dangerous stories I heard from other travelers about Guatemala City I decided to skip it and go to the coast, Monterrico.
